Keep personal finances separate from business finances!

Updated: Jul 28

RULE No. 1 in business; Keep your personal finances separate from your business finances. I believe the first reason we start a business is to be in control of your money... Keeping your finances separate will help you become disciplined in this very delicate area where most business owners struggle. If you already know this and still not doing it, it is not too late. START where you are and START NOW! I know it can be daunting to start divorcing these two, so start simple, start BUDGETING. Let's be honest for a minute! It is not about how much money we make, but how much we keep and if you do not tell your money where to go, it will tell you where NOT to! You don't have to be tech savvy to budget, you just have to be interested in your own money, for which you trade your time and expertise. If you are a very small business, just grab a piece of paper and a pen and write down your income & expenses and start allocating your money.

A great tip to help keep some of the money that you make or just keep as much as you want is to pay yourself first! It is the way to self discipline. If you pay everyone else first you are often left with nothing and you are not running your own business for nothing...
